The Department of Biomedical Imaging is seeking a Scientific Manager to support the in vivo optical imaging facility at Genentech Inc. The optical facility utilizes bioluminescence, near-infrared fluorescence, 2-photon and optical coherence tomography-based imaging modalities to study the pathophysiology of human disease modeled in vivo . This position provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced, scientifically driven and collaborative researcher interested in the use and development of optical imaging technologies to promote interdisciplinary research in ophthalmology, immunology, neurobiology and oncology.
        Responsibilities: The Scientific Manager will be responsible for oversight of collaborative research activities involving the optical imaging facility. This will include direct involvement in planning, experimentation, data analysis and signal processing method development. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the execution of research projects that address basic questions in biology, as well as aspects of disease pathophysiology and mechanism of drug action in vivo . Applicants must have PhD/Post-doc experience or BA/BS/MS with an extensive record of scientific accomplishment. Minimum 5 years scientific or work experience in related field. Previous experience in ophthalmology, immunology, neurobiology or oncology, in vivo microsurgery and optical imaging is necessary. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, including the ability to present ideas to outside groups. Strong managerial and computer programming skills will be integral to success.
