Job Description
The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely construction estimates for Oil & Gas facilities and pipelines, according to Flint’s standards. The Estimator uses technical experience gained in the office and field assignments to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings and prepares Material Take Offs from engineered drawings or sketches. The Estimator is a member of or leads the team that prepares Estimates, which include direct labor hours and labor, material, and subcontract cost. Flint’s Indirect cost also includes construction equipment and Flint’s Construction Management staff. The Estimator checks or ensures that checks of drawings and Material Take Offs are performed to determine if items required for construction are missing from specifications or drawings. The Estimator may perform Cold Eye reviews of estimates prepared by another team. The Cold Eye review is one of Flint’s quality assurance practices. The Estimator receives day-to-day direction from the Lead Estimator or the Estimating Manager and reports to the Estimating Manager. When Leading an Estimate, the Estimator prepares the Estimate Plan & Schedule and ensures that interface with other functional organizations ensures estimating input is obtained and estimating deliverables are submitted on schedule and as planned.

Flint Estimating is located in Houston, TX. Residents in the Houston area are preferred. Relocations will be considered depending on Flint’s needs and the candidate’s qualifications.
Requirements
Requirements include the preference for a BS Degree in Engineering or Construction and ten years of practical experience in the office and field preparing Bid estimates or project (Definitive) estimates. Leadership experience is desired. Practical experience includes one and preferably more of the three general estimating disciplines, i.e. Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical. Equivalent qualifications may include a two-year diploma in engineering technology or Journeyman and/or other practical experience. Other practical experience may include 10 years of preparing estimates in for example, chemical, power, and heavy construction.
Your Resume should identify the projects, their description, and locations; field experience and the estimating discipline such as Civil (including Structural & Architectural), Mechanical (including equipment, piping & related, and insulation); and Electrical (including equipment, power, I&C, and other low voltage). Also, explain your estimating skills for preparing Definitive (AACE Class 2) Estimates using specifications, drawings, and quantity take off and preparing Order of Magnitude (AACE Class 4) Estimates using factoring and scaling methods. Resumes should describe supervisory experience. Describe experience providing classroom and/or estimator on-the-job training. Requirements also include the ability to use a construction Code of Accounts and setting up other WBS’ for Clients’ bid form requirements and reporting estimating progress; et al. The ability to interface and communicate effectively, have effective interpersonal skills, and self-motivation is required. Computer skills include CAD and Microsoft Office, i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint.
