This is manual, at times physically demanding, semi-skilled work required in the operations and maintenance of government roads and bridges within the Central Region. Work may involve the safe operation of various tools and equipment used for highway maintenance, including the incidental operation of a motor vehicle. Work is often labour intensive, and may involve heavy lifting. Work is performed both inside and outside, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Examples of work include – pothole patching; ditching; repairs to road signs; shovels snow from doorways and walkways; picks up parts and materials; loads and unloads trucks; keeps job sites clean and free of debris; digs fence post holes; cleans and maintains tools and equipment; acts as flag person in the direction of highway traffic, where required. Performs other related duties.

Completion of high school. The successful candidate should possess knowledge and experience in buildings and grounds maintenance, and the tools and equipment used in the performance of such work; knowledge of related safety issues and procedures. Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license and current and valid Flag person certificate are requirements for this position.
