The Anatomical Laboratory Assistant will work closely with the Director of the Human Anatomy Laboratory in preparing and maintaining human anatomical specimens (donors). Incumbents in this position will also be responsible for assisting faculty and students with maintenance of the donors, cataloging, issuing and tracking of instructional models and related materials. Ongoing maintenance of anatomy laboratory and associated space as needed as well as help in the administration of the Anatomical Gift Program answering phones and and mail. A working knowledge of chemistry is desirable for the preparation of embalming and wetting solutions.


Coordinate and participate in setting up and maintaining the Human Anatomy Laboratory on a daily basis, to insure proper conditions of cadavers, skeletons, equipment and instruments needed for instructional and research activities.

Assist faculty in order to support the educational programs conducted in and associated with the Human Anatomy Laboratory.

Maintains the models, bones, and demonstration materials within the dissection rooms.

Assists in the embalming and storage of donors.

Assists in the administration of the Anatomical Gift Program, to include but not limited to cataloging donations, arranging for transportation and cremation of anatomical specimens and returning cremains to donor families.

Coordinates the preservation and maintenance of specimens according to accepted hygienic Practices and applicable laws.

Additional duties as assigned by the Director of the Human Anatomy Laboratory.

Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants:

High School Diploma plus a minimum of two years of college.

Desired Qualifications:

At least two years of mortuary or gross anatomy laboratory experience in a Higher education setting.

A working knowledge of rules and regulations that govern operation of a cadaver laboratory.

Ability to work outside of normal business hours.

Proficiency with computer software that may be used to maintain records and prepare narrative information related to the operation of the Human Anatomy Laboratory.

Previous experience working with families of the deceased.
