Responsibilities:

This position is for a high energy self starter who can be relied upon to :

  • Monitor and work a daily list of tickets and issues with little supervision.
  • Proactively investigate systems and issues, and find solutions on their own.
  • Identify trends and problem areas and share this information with the team manager.


  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a track record of being proactive, reliable and a multi-tasker.

    The position involves both working defined problem sets as well as seeking new solutions independently. The successful candidate will :
    • Maintain production Apache and MySQL (LAMP) servers across multiple data centers for both corporate and development environments.
    • Provide technical expertise and support for an actively developed, high traffic LAMP infrastructure.
    • Utilize a configuration management system to express desired configuration of LAMP servers.
    • Be Responsible for configuring and maintaining a proactive Network Monitoring System to track network statistical performance and metrics.
    • Diligently generate documentation of processes and configurations for peers.
    • Assist with design and support of web services and network devices.

    Qualifications:

    Hours

    This is a full time position hourly (must average 38 hours to be considered full time status). You will be scheduled to work 8 hours a day from Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am- 6pm. Reasonable on call schedule. Ability to work flexible hours and support night or weekend work as needed.

    Education and Experience

    Fifth year college or university program certificate, or two to four years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportion to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills

    Strong Red Hat/CentOS Linux, Apache and MySQL server experience a necessity.

    Strong bash and perl skills.

    Experience troubleshooting performance problems with Apache 2 and MySQL 5.

    Experience with enterprise configuration management systems such as puppet or chef.

    Experience and understanding of reporting protocols and monitoring tools -- yslog,snmp,ntop,iftop,etc

    Experience supporting Windows Server 2003/2008 operating systems is a plus.

    Other Skills/Abilities

    - Self starter, Ability to find solutions independently.

    - Superior problem-solving and analytical skills, ability to triage and execute tasks independently with minimal need for supervision.

    - Ability to work under varying degrees of pressure and uncertainty.

    - Vendor certifications a plus.
