Provide Unix systems administration for servers that host Virginia Tech administrative and research computing. Responsibilities include developing or enhancing software tools or scripts to assist in systems administration and performance monitoring.
Unix systems administration experience. Working knowledge of Unix systems, system administration tools, methodologies, and security practices. Experience with Redhat or CentOS linux. Experience troubleshooting software and hardware system errors and the ability to analyze a wide range of system related problems. Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to work in groups and lead projects.
Experience in computer support such as system administration, preferably in an environment similar to Virginia Tech's computing environment. Experience with cluster computing support software and applications. Preference given for experience with Portable Batch System (PBS), Infiniband and network configuration and management. Preference given for security related certifications, such as GIAC or CISSP certifications.
