Researches, develops, analyzes, designs, and tests company products using engineering and scientific principles. Translates engineering and scientific concepts from preliminary ideas through product life cycle. Analyzes and verifies product design and performance for adequacy, including reliability. Researches and develops material and processes that support the translation from abstract concepts to functional products. Applies knowledge of engineering and scientific methods and tools to define and characterize behavior of products, services, and processes. Integrates technical, cost, value, and safety considerations into the product definition to comply with customer, regulatory, and company requirements; documents results in drawings, data sets, reports, specifications, and supporting data. Interfaces with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions to meet group, organization, and company objectives.

Develop techniques and processes for fly away composite aircraft components to address specific production challenges, creating the optimum solution in order to achieve both quality and cost objectives. Ability to assess resource requirements, including materials, tools, equipment, and personnel, in order to implement necessary manufacturing technology.

This position will perform and execute Non Destructive Inspection (NDI)/Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) research and development activities, such as development, and selection of NDE systems/equipment required to support the manufacturing of the composite and metallic detail parts and large composite structures. Specific tasks may include design, fabrication, processing, and testing of a variety of NDE systems in order to provide recommendations for final process, and system selection. System down selection must comply with program cost and schedule targets. The candidate will have latitude to develop plans, conduct research, evaluate results and make recommendations for production incorporation of technology solutions. Responsibilities will also include evaluation of composite structures, with emphasis on theoretical/experimental aspects of materials development, and NDT composite reference standards to support and comply with customer's specific NDE standards and technical specifications. Significant interface is required among various NDI organizations within the Spirit AeroSystems, with external customers and with NDT instrument vendors, which in some cases will require some travel to the various vendors and other company site locations. Automated NDI experience preferred. Aerospace industry experience preferred

10 to 15 years experience in composite NDT is required. Familiar with the inspection and manufacturing processes of composites and metallic parts. Familiar with automatic inspection equipment for inspecting composites. Basic understanding of specifications associated with the manufacturing and inspection of various solid laminate. Knowledge in utilizing analysis/simulation tools in support of development activities is desired.Ability to participate in the development and implementation of manufacturing concepts, specialized equipment, related software, and production-ready manufacturing processes. Must assure project complies with customer requirements, specifications, company policies, and related governmental regulations

Must be creative and self starter with ability to plan and execute project plans. Ability to work with other team members is required. Must be able to work independently and must have hands on ability to get jobs done independently on shop floor to execute R&D projects.

Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Must have strong written and verbal skills and the ability to effectively work within a team environment. Teaming skills and strong work ethic.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or Material Science is required, ABET or ABET recognized equivalent is preferred. Formal NDT education is desired. It is preferred that the candidate currently has a level II certification in ultrasonic NDI.
