This Linux administrator position will work as part of a three person UNIX and enterprise storage team within the Systems Integration group. This position will primarily be responsible for supporting Vulcan’s 125 plus OEL and Red Hat Linux server environment.
The configuration of these Linux servers is centrally managed by Puppet. Prior experience with Puppet is a plus, but not required. The person that fills this position will eventually take over primary support responsibilities for Puppet, Subversion, and VMC’s file transfer solution, Axway’s Secure Transport.
Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must also be able to function in a corporate environment working with technical peers, developers, and the company’s business departments.
a. Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and monitor Linux servers.
b. Assist with application upgrades and maintenance.
c. Manage database security, monitor emerging threats and address
Perform duties in compliance with regulations, company policies, and standard procedures.
a. Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
b. Follow company policies regarding ethics, business conduct, change
management, security, etc.
c. Develop, maintain and follow standard, documented and repeatable
procedures for managing information systems.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with fellow IT senior technical professionals, other I/S employees, and the company’s business departments.

Required Education, Experience and Skills
3+ years Linux operating system experience is required.
B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field is preferred.
Additional Linux experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements
Experience with major Linux/Unix services and solutions such as NIS, NFS, BIND, Sendmail SNMP
Experience writing and maintaining scripts using Bash or Korn shells.
Basic knowledge of Windows Server OS including Active Directory and disk configuration.
Experience in the following is a plus (NOT REQUIRED
Experience with Puppet, Subversion, Splunk in Linux environment.
Experience with Oracle RAC on Linux
Experience with Axway Secure Transport
Experience with PAM
Experience with fiber channel switch configuration, SAN Management and NAS environments.
Experience with Disaster Recovery solutions and/or environments
Ability to work overtime as needed, including occasional nights and weekends
Ability to work in a rotational 24/7 on-call environment
Ability to write and speak English clearly, including the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical people
Strong listening and customer service skills
Ability to organize work effectively and meet deadlines
Ability to perform duties with moderate to minimal supervision
