Based in Hartford CT, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Consumer & Commercial Markets Compensation will report directly to the SVP, Rewards and HR Operations and will manage the compensation function for the Consumer & Commercial Markets segments. The AVP will plan, develop and implement new and revised compensation programs, policies and procedures, in response to the company's goals and competitive practices for both business segments. The AVP will regularly conduct thorough audits to ensure that compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations and that they are driving the goals and objectives of the Consumer and Commercial Markets segments. The AVP will also work as a member of The Hartford's Rewards and HR Operations management team, ensuring that the Company's overall compensation strategy is competitive and aiding The Hartford in attracting and retaining the best talent in the marketplace.

Responsibilities • Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation policies and guidelines, ensuring that they are competitive, cost effective, aligned with and supportive of the company's overall business strategy. • Develop and manage compensation and recognition programs that will attract, motivate and retain superior talent. • Respond to employee and managerial inquiries and provide appropriate counsel and guidance on all compensation-related issues. • Manage the administration of direct compensation (executive, exempt and nonexempt cash compensation programs and sales administration) for the Consumer & Commercial Markets staff including the processing, recording and reporting of compensation-related actions taken on salaried employees.

  • Perform regular internal audits and external studies to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness of the company's total compensation and benefits practices through strategic monitoring of business conditions, legal requirements, economic environment and competitive practices within the global business world. Make specific recommendations to ensure that The Hartford's benefit programs remain compelling and competitive. • Manage a team of compensation analysts and consultants professionals. • Keep apprised of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations, ensuring Company compliance.
  • Ensure the internal equity and external competitiveness of the company's total compensation practices through strategic monitoring of business conditions, legal requirements, economic environment and competitive practices within the global business world.
