Assists in management of research station operations; assists research faculty and staff with implementation of research projects for vegetable crops on organic soils; assists manager to ensure research operations are completed to meet goals and expectations; assists with hiring, training and supervising seasonal staff; assists with coordinating work assignments; assists manager in procurement of supplies and equipment; assists with supervision of staff to maintain and repair facilities, grounds, and equipment; assists with supervision of staff and performs field and greenhouse operations for vegetable crops experiments including plot layout, data and sample collection, planting, seeding, weeding, irrigation, tillage and harvest; operates and maintains irrigation and drainage systems and pumps; calibrates, operates, adjusts and repairs farm equipment to perform research functions; supervises staff and performs fertilizer and crop protection chemical treatments; keeps detailed records of operations and enters data into spreadsheets; prepares data and reports for supervisor and for investigators; participates in grower/industry meetings and facilitates communication between growers and researchers to solve production problems; conducts tours and/or prepares field day programs; responsible for all operations in absence of supervisor; may work flexible work schedule according to soil, crop, pest and weather conditions.

Bachelor’s Degree in crop science minor or an equivalent combination of education and experience; technical training and experience in field crop production and with operating farm machinery on various soil conditions, proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel, email; excellent communication and collaboration skills in a team work environment, and ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in conduct of biological research; mechanical aptitude and ability to repair various kinds of equipment; ability to obtain pesticide license within two years.

Desired Qualifications
Two years experience in crop production practices in a research environment; ability to communicate in Spanish; two years supervisory experience.
