SUMMARY: The Staff Pharmacist reports to the Director of Pharmacy. The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the correct dispensing of medication to the following age groups: (1) neonatal, (2) infants, (3) children, (4) adolescents, (5) adults.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews, interprets and transcribes prescriptions for inpatients using patient profiles to ensure that overdoses have not been prescribed.
Compounds and dispenses dosage forms of drugs and medications ordered by physicians, dentists or other practitioners authorized by law to prescribe.
Contact and confers with physician and/or nurse if there are any questions or irregularities regarding the medication order.
Maintains inventory for schedule II, III, IV and V drugs. Awareness of Federal and Massachusetts state law concerning schedule II, III, IV and V drugs.
Inspects Pharmacy inventory and removes any outdated drugs. Maintains an inventory of outdated drugs.
Consults with the medical staff concerning the availability, form, side effects, drug interactions and incompatibilities of the drugs in question.
Participates in other inservice education programs of the Hospital (fire, disaster, safety).
Demonstrates an understanding of the policies and procedures of the Franciscan Children's Hospital pharmacy.
Maintains records on filled medications; records necessary info rmation for billing services.
Works effectively with the medical staff and all departments to ensure quality patient care.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited pharmacy college of pharmacy with a BS Degree in Pharmacy.
A current Massachusetts Registered Pharmacist license.
One (1) year of hospital experience. Pediatric experience preferred.
