Position Description

The Senior Transportation Analyst is responsible for statistical analysis, forecasting extrapolation, predictive modeling and Optimization. Connecting analytics insights to decisions and actions. Identifying optimization and demonstrated transportation best practices across the network. Responsible for standard and
consistent analysis & metrics.

Develop, analyze, recommend and lead implementation of opportunities for improvement that optimize transportation policies and processes around availability, transportation cost, and supply chain cost.
o Identification, selection, negotiation and implementation of cost/serviceeffective alternative solutions.
o Manage project to expectations and to delivery goals
o Lead continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives
o Work closely with cross functional partners to ensure proper alignment in communicating with carriers and other internal partners (DC, Purchasing, etc.)
 Analysis and audit
o Analysis utilizing transportation, freight payment and carrier databases to determine underlying causes of freight cost trends, identify inefficiencies, noncompliance and other opportunities for improvement
o Work with Transportation Analysts and other internal partners to identify process improvement opportunities and to implement new policies and processes
o Conduct audits to gaps in processes
 Maintain and measure previously implemented projects/processes
 Supplier contract management
 Develop and utilize cross functional relationships
 Serve as a key contact for cross functional projects
o Serve as a go to person for understanding Grainger’s information flow and assist in on-boarding of the new team members.
o Leading team efforts on a specific assignment in an indirect reporting capacity
o Working through challenging issues in a constructive manner
 Strategy Development
Extrapolate data into written reports/presentations
o Contextualize analytics into business perspective
o Support strategy/vision for future network and all known changes
Position Requirements
Bachelor degree in analytical discipline (e.g. Supply Chain, Operations Management, Finance/Economics, Statistics, etc.) required. MBA Preferred.
Intermediate software skills such as Excel, Access, Visio, Powerpoint, and SAP highly preferred.
 Demonstrated skills and experience in:
o Working understanding of the supply chain tradeoffs between transportation and inventory costs and availability
o Analyzing data, developing a recommended course of action and
implementing a successful solution
Leading team efforts on a specific assignment in an indirect reporting capacity
o Working through challenging issues in a constructive manner
 Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
 Ability to communicate confidently and effectively in various ways up to VP level of management (e.g. written, oral, and presentation)
 Has proven relationship building skills and handles conflict gracefully
 Project management experience
