JOB TITLE: HOSPICE PHYSICIAN
REPORTS TO: Medical Director
JOB SUMMARY: The physician is qualified to provide inpatient medical care to hospice patients who require hospitalization for symptom management or respite care. The physician is committed to making hospice services available to all those who would benefit and participates in on-going educational programs to increase their expertise in caring for hospice patients. In addition, the hospice physician works effectively and communicates well with the members of the hospice team and fulfills all other requirements of the position.
Is licensed to provide medical care and is a medical staff member in good standing with admitting privileges at least one hospital.
Completes the Seasons Hospice orientation for hospice physicians within six months of their effective employment date.
Displays expertise in providing symptom management for hospice patients.
Attends educational inservices offered by the hospice, and possesses an ongoing commitment to enhancing their medical expertise in caring for hospice patients.
Possesses excellent communication skills with an understanding of working with patients with a terminal illness and their families.
Works closely with the medical director, the team physicians and the team leaders to provide continuity of care consistent with the hospice philosophy and the patient's wishes.
Works effectively with all members of the hospice team.
Provides 24 hour coverage, 365 days a year, and arranges coverage when unavailable and provides this Information to the Medical Director at least two weeks ahead of any scheduled absences.
Will assist in developing opportunities to conduct inservice presentations to the physician medical staff, the nursing staff , the social work and discharge planners and other hospital employee groups as needed.
Completes all written documentation in a timely manner.
