The Ground Support Software Engineer (GSSWE) for USRA will be the primary Data Handler of all Mission Data on the SOFIA Program, including Observatory Housekeeping, raw Science Data, Science Instrument configuration data files, Mission Operations execution plans and reference information. The GSSWE will be responsible for the configuration control of Mission Data on the aircraft and in the computer labs, as well as owner and operator of the Mission Data Processing processes and procedures, and point of contact for questions and information regarding Mission. The GSSWE tasks will include: creation of Mission Data flight series baselines and daily flight overlays (data update package customized for each flight), processing of observatory housekeeping data, all data (including raw science data) manifesting and ingestion for archiving into the Data Cycle System (DCS), data verification, final data accounting and reporting, and support for and maintenance of the associated Mission Operations infrastructure tools, work spaces, and knowledge base.

Software and/or data handling experience in a scientific, research, and/or operations environment is preferred

Possess the ability to work with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, technicians, and administrators

Required Experience

Preferred experience includes operations at astronomical observatories and familiarity with NASA process and documentation standards.
