Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; and five (5) years experience as a Building Inspector, Construction Engineer and/or Architect


High School Diploma or G.E.D. and seven (7) years experience as a Building Inspector, Construction Engineer, and/or Architect


2. Certification as a Building Inspector and Plans Examiner through a recognized certification program

3. Possession of a valid state-issued driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit

Examples of Duties:

Responsible for examining construction documents to ensure compliance with standard Building Codes and City codes and ordinances, including zoning and subdivision regulations; receives, reviews, and approves post foundation surveys required for all new construction; receives and reviews reports from civil, electrical, environmental, geotechnical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural engineers and coordinates prospective changes with architects as necessary; issues permits, compiles and examines documents, applications, bonds, and third party approvals, and determines valuation for permit fees as required; acts as liaison between City officials and contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, and consultants; responds to requests for document information; and performs other related duties as required.
