POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, edits manuscripts by reviewing content for completeness, accuracy and correctness of language use and revises manuscripts to meet predetermined standards of style and accuracy.

This position is a Technical Editor who is responsible for content of technical documentation; checks author’s document for spelling, grammar and content problems (e.g., missing instructions or sections; redundant or unnecessary sections). Candidate will ensure accuracy of content in coordination with engineers, administrators, managers, and other technicians. Successful candidate ensures that documents follow the style laid out in the organization’s style guide and may also be responsible for maintaining the style guide using Microsoft Office 2010 and Adobe Acrobat. The technical editor is to make recommendations and suggestions to the document’s style guide as appropriate. Editor is often a technical writer who has moved to this position.

- Edits material for a variety of reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications.
- Prioritizes, tracks, handles, and maintains records of projects.
- Obtains cost estimates from outside vendors such as photographers, illustrators, paper suppliers, or printers.
- Coordinates preparation of final materials with graphic designers, suppliers, and printers.
- Reviews quality of final print or electronic product before release.
- Looks for inconsistencies of thought, development or organization.
- Confers with authors to recommend treatment of material.
- Reorganizes, cuts or rewrites as necessary.
- May distribute work to others.
- Must be a self-starter and willing to gather inputs from up to 30 separate sources for recurring reporting requirements.
- Must have excellent customer service skills while interfacing with government customers.
- Must be able to prioritize and deconflict reporting requirements in an Enterprise IT environment.
- Should be experience in creating editorial, procedural, and approval processes; validating them, and implementing within an team environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent, and two to four years of related experience. Requires excellent communications skills and editing experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.

Required Qualifications:

Must have an active, current Top Secret Clearance;

Must meet DOD 8570.01M requirements for IAT-I level position within six months of date of hire;

Preferred Qualifications:

CompTIA Network+ or A+ or higher certifications.

Microsoft Professional Certified in Office 2010 or equivalent
