This position is primarily field based. The Consumer Marketing Consultant will spend 40%-60% of the time traveling within an assigned territory. The territory is the state of Michigan not including the Upper peninsula of Michigan.
The Consumer Marketing Consultant (CMC) will be responsible for growing market share for key segments such as equine, poultry and pet in the specific geographies they are assigned to. CMC's will need to invest time in networking and deeply understanding the drivers for their local market. They will use this information to implement key Cargill strategies that will aggressively increase demand and market share. CMC's will work in conjunction with a Retail Account Manager to help retailers understand how they can improve their marketability through events, consumer promotions, etc. CMC's are also responsible for growing and managing the independent dealer channel in their geographies.
40% - Manage our dealer network:
Work with select independent dealers and other feed dealer channels to maintain and grow market share of Nutrena and other Cargill brands by capitalizing on our dealer growth programs and other marketing tactics.
30% - Network with key influencers:
Including veterinarians, farriers, key breeders/trainers, etc, to stay current with industry trends. Identifying key buying groups to effectively market to by using marketing principles that capitalize on marketing spend. Manage local trade shows & association relations, ambassadors/demos, national & regional sponsorships in order to grow market share.
20% - New Distribution growth:
Identify distribution points that are aligned with our Upper Midwest (UMW) dealer segmentation and actively pursue these distribution points to be become Nutrena dealers.
10% - Product Innovation:
Nutrition & Product Training to stay on the cutting edge of equine, pet and other segments. Know and understand competitor's products to effectively position Nutrena products. Communicate with regional marketing team and corporate innovation teams on product positioning, innovation ideas and consumer feedback, new trends, market white spaces, etc.
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year outside sales experience OR extensive knowledge of equine feeding and management practices
Ability to travel within assigned territory 40% - 60% of the time
Strong understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
Strong relationship building skills and desire to work with retail customers and consumers.
Ability to create and sustain relationships through strong written/verbal communication skills.
Highly organized and self motivated, able to set and follow priorities, manage multiple projects and deadlines
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability of responsible decision making.
Must be a team player with desire and ability to work across multiple job families and multiple layers of the organization.
Knowledge of animal feeding and management practices.
