The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General seeks a Criminal Trial Assistant to assist in the prosecution of serious crimes in rural Minnesota. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly committed team of professionals and an office whose mission is dedicated to serving and advocating for the people of Minnesota.

Job Duties . The Office assists county attorneys with the prosecution of serious complex criminal cases in rural Minnesota. The Criminal Trial Assistant works closely with prosecutors in cases charged in the state district courts and performs important work for the victims of crime. The Trial Assistant works with prosecutors and local law enforcement to prepare a case for trial and to actively support the prosecution of the case through trial and sentencing. The Trial Assistant assists in organizing discovery, preparing documents and exhibits necessary for trial, communicating with victims and their families and witnesses, coordinating the presentation of witnesses at trial, and assisting with sentencing.

Qualifications. Applicants must have a four year college degree, with an emphasis in criminal justice, legal studies, law enforcement, or similar focus preferred. Prior applicable employment experience is preferred. Applicants must have the ability to perform assigned job responsibilities with a high degree of professionalism, have good academic credentials, outstanding communication skills, and excellent judgment and character. Applicants must be able to serve the public with a high degree of distinction and have the skills and work ethic to put forth the very best work for the people of Minnesota. Applicants must be proficient with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and have good computer skills. Extensive travel throughout the State of Minnesota is required.
