Purpose of Position This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance and integrity and documentation of server software.
Essential Functions Administer required server software and hardware system. Perform day-to-day system administration functions such as user support, trouble shooting, server configuration, and facilitating backups. Administer UNIX and LINUX (Debian/Redhat); perform routine system administration functions including: OS installs and updates, performance monitoring, security monitoring, and hardware maintenance. Evaluate, recommend, plan, implement, and document enhancements to production systems and internal OIT resources. Monitor all critical network and systems events. Assist with the administration and management of network security. Maintain compliance with current security standards and policies. Make recommendations for updates as needed.
Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned.
Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or other technical field, or five years of equivalent experience. Three years of system administration experience. Three years of experience in systems design, analysis and programming. Three years administering UNIX and LINUX (Debian/Redhat) operating systems. One or more years experience administering Ruby on Rails applications. Knowledge of the broad scope of Network, Systems, and Information Security administration roles. One or more years administering MySQL and Oracle. Familiarity with software package management systems, patches, and software compilation. Familiarity with concepts such as RAID, LPAR, hardware diagnostics, backups, replication, failure recovery procedures. Experience with server and network administration. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications More than two years experience administering Ruby on Rails applications. More than two years experience administering systems that are running Oracle and MySQL. Working knowledge of network firewalls, switches and routers. Hands-on experience with or detailed knowledge of: DNS, LDAP, Active Directory, Group Policy objects, Nagios, Apache, Tomcat Administration, NFS, Sendmail, SSL/certificate management, MS Windows, packet dump analyzers, and firewalls. Experience with server performance measurement is a plus. Proven superior information technology troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Supervisory or team lead experience.
