Position Purpose:
Partners with IT and assigned business line to assess, research, analyze and document business and systems needs in order to resolve business systems issues by recommending business solutions that meet sponsor/stakeholder needs. Specifically, this position supports the Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS), Eagle Pace and Star and other trading and investment solutions for the RBC GAM US business. Reports to the Support Manager of the GAM Investment Management & Trading System support group, part of Canadian Wealth Management Technology.
Manages and supports a suite of business mission-critical and complex applications, along with their enhancement deliverables required to fulfill the business needs. Plans, directs and coordinates activities to ensure that support objectives are accomplished to the satisfaction of the business. Plans and manages implementations, in conjunction with the Business technology Services group, within the approved time frame, scope and budget. Independently and effectively assist Manager in the support of projects. Refer to Authorities for Project Criteria.
The department works primarily with 3rd party vendor developed applications, supporting RBC Global Asset Management Toronto & USA. The technology platform spans the breadth of Windows .Net and Web based applications, with Perl interfaces, Crystal reporting, MS SQL Server and Citrix.
Context is small to large development or maintenance projects (multiple projects – multiple applications with multiple interfaces and/or 3rd parties).
Key Accountabilities:
Business Analysis & Consulting
Provides consulting services to business partners on new initiatives (small to large of varying complexity).
Develops proposals for small to medium projects.
Leads all activities with regard to resolving business issues including identifying, tracking and escalating where required.
Assesses, researches, analyzes and documents sponsor/stakeholder needs in accordance with Project Life Cycle and CMM deliverables utilizing reporting tools, requirements.
Recommends business solutions that satisfy sponsor/stakeholder needs continually exploring and assessing options to add value for clients.
Together with Project Manager, determines best mix of development, interfacing applications, third party vendor solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives.
Ensures adequate end user documentation and training.
Contributes to successful project completion within budget and on time by identifying risks and developing/recommending mitigation strategies.
Seeks out industry trends and organization knowledge to understand alternative approaches / solutions.
Captures and tracks metrics and performs trend analysis.
Manages project scope/requirements changes, multiple and competing demands and priorities determining and conveying impact on budget, time and risk using appropriate fact-basedmetrics/assumptions.
Assesses ambiguous situations and provides clarity to team and stakeholders as required.
Planning & Testing
Develops detailed plans and accurate estimates for completion of Requirements and Acceptance phases of projects
Develops test plans and executes testing including leading the systems and acceptance testing by facilitating participation of appropriate staff in project completion.
Relationships & Communication
Develops criteria for and participates in the evaluation of 3rd party vendors and software as well as due diligence exercises.
Manages the detail aspects of day-to-day operations with 3rd party vendors.
Effectively communicates and builds rapport with team members, stakeholders and business partners using a variety of techniques and collaboration from initiation to close.
Facilitates small to large meetings and conducts information gathering sessions (e.g. JAD).
Prepares and delivers presentations to business partners and senior management, selecting the appropriate approach based on the audience.
Resolves conflicts/issues of medium complexity and escalates to others as appropriate.
Provides superior client service and strengthens relationship with business partner.
Collaborates with colleagues across the organization to get things done.
Manages communications including status reports to all stakeholders.

Provides direction, expertise, feedback, coaching and development to build the capability of more junior staff.
