The City of Anaheim, CA is currently constructing the Canyon Power Project. This project is a state-of- the-art power generating facility that features four GE® gas turbines, capable of producing 200 megawatts of power. The Canyon Power Project presents an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to serve as a Utilities Generation Technician for the City's two power generating facilities and perform a variety of technical tasks.
Operate and maintain the power plants LM6000 and LM5000 gas turbine-generators, plant equipment, auxiliary equipment and related support equipment.
Receive and execute instructions from Power Resources Division for operations of the gas turbine-generator.
Perform tests and analysis on boiler steam samples, feedwater and water conditioning equipment.
Make inspections and adjustments of equipment at the gas turbine-generating power plant including auxiliary equipment in both the stand-by and operating modes; add chemicals to treatment boiler feed water and water conditioning system.
Accepting deliveries and placing orders for consumables, parts and services.
Perform plant equipment safety tag-out; respond to emergency situations and be on-call as assigned.
Review, maintain, evaluate and file operating logs and records to determine plant availability and compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency, South Coast Air Quality Management District and other governing agencies.
Developing and implementing contingency plans relating to power plan operations and maintenance; assisting in the training of plant personnel; and performing general housekeeping duties.
NOTE: Must be available to assume a 24 hour emergency stand-by duty rotation assignment and when assigned be able to respond to the power plant within 50 minutes after dispatch. Stand-by rotation assignments are compensable events.
Must be available to work rotating shifts 6:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and occasional weekend and weekday holidays.
Journey-level control room operating experience in power plant generation, utilizing a gas turbine-generator as a prime mover with heat recovery steam generator.
Experience with steam generation.
Journey-level power plant maintenance experience is desired.
Knowledge of basic Physics, Chemistry, Thermodynamics and Electricity and Electronics as it applies to gas turbines, boilers and electric generation.
Knowledge of the hazards involved and safety precautions required when working in and around high pressure steam and electric generation equipment including energized circuits.
Knowledge of the EPA Acid Rain program and South Coast Air Quality Management District compliance.
Ability to operate a PC with Microsoft Windows NT/98 and Microsoft Office software skills is desirable.
Ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instructions and established procedures; attend training classes related to trade; and possess a valid California Driver's License by date of appointment.
Ability to work rotating shifts and in a hot and noisy environment.
