Role Outline

Position: Global Solutions ACCOUNT DIRECTOR

Reporting to: MANAGING PARTNER

Objectives of this role:
  • Total responsibility for the management of your accounts
  • Supporting your Managing Partner in securing preferred status with your clients, and adding value to their business
  • Management of billing, income and profitability on your accounts
  • Supervising global or pan-regional communication strategies
  • Implementation of planning process and its supporting products and tools
  • Training and development of account managers and executives

Key Responsibilities:

Internally
  • Team building i.e. managing, coaching and motivating your account managers and executives, and conducting regular appraisals
  • Managing and prioritising the workload for yourself and your team
  • Internal partnering i.e. interacting regularly and constructively with the other groups in MEC in Miami, with the MEC global network of offices, and with other companies in the WPP group
  • Involvement in cross-company or other organisational projects
  • Participating in new business efforts
  • Promoting the MEC ambition and values
  • Generating a culture in your team and in the organisation which enables them to work together successfully

Externally
  • Ensuring professional behaviour by your team with suppliers and partners eg creative agencies
  • Building strong relationships with relevant senior personnel in media owner companies and creative agencies
  • Obtaining maximum value for clients’ budgets in all media negotiations, leveraging added value from new negotiation routes and centrally-managed buys
  • Promoting MEC and its ambition and values to suppliers and other partners eg creative agencies
  • Looking for new business opportunities for MEC

To client
  • Proactive and timely delivery of client expectations and contracted services
  • Deep understanding of your clients’ marketplace, consumers, strategic challenges and communication needs
  • Developing and maintaining relationships of trust and respect at the most senior client level
  • Improving status quo by constructively challenging the client’s brief and assisting them in formulating clear and achievable objectives
  • Applying the planning process and tools to deliver effective communication strategies
  • Actively seeking creative and innovative media solutions
  • Supervising their smooth implementation via your team and the global MWC network
  • Overseeing the quality of briefing to, and response from, our local offices
  • Sharing learning and ideas around the network as appropriate for each client
  • Ensuring that clients learn from you the latest Latin American media developments, together with advice on how to exploit them
  • Supporting your Group Account Director in ensuring client profitability, including supervision of budget control, timely and accurate Adtraq inputting and billing, and accurate reporting of hours spent by your team.

  • Timely delivery of contracted services to client within budget
  • Client satisfaction, via formal and informal feedback
  • Increased usage of planning process tools on your accounts
  • Team satisfaction, normally via informal feedback
  • Development of managers and executives under your supervision
  • Involvement in new business efforts and other internal projects
  • Achievement of specific objectives, reviewed in annual Appraisal

Skills:

Excellent client relationship-building

Deep understanding of
  • marketing
  • media tools & techniques (eg research & evaluation)
  • communication channels
  • media planning processes
  • media buying and negotiation (pan regional highly desirable)
Strategic thinking including evaluation of key trends

Sound financial awareness including budget control and client profitability

Workflow management i.e.
  • organisational skills and time management
  • project management , planning and implementation
  • prioritisation of tasks and effective delegation

Other details:

Years experience: 6+

Academic profile: Graduate capability (business or marketing degree preferred but not essential)

Professional profile:
  • Ideally local media marketplace experience
  • Ideally experience in communications and marketing at client company, or agency

Language requirements: Bilingual Fluent oral and written English and Spanish are essential

PC skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint essential and other databases desirable
