This position is represented by the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 367 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 367. If the person selected is not affiliated with Plumbers & Pipefitters, Local 367, he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.

Example of Duties:
Under supervision installs, maintains and/or repairs motors; generators; switchgear; and motor control centers employing electronic reduced voltage starters, adjustable frequency drives and industrial process networks. The aforementioned systems interface with programmable logic controllers integrated for control and remote supervision. Work includes maintaining building electrical systems such as lighting, heating and ventilation. All work encompasses raceway construction; wire pulling; conductor termination; and/or systems checkouts. Work is coordinated with the Operations Staff and works within AWWU standards set forth for technology application, documenting procedures and installation guidelines.
Design and construct electrical installations for services, switch gear, motor circuits, control systems, instrument systems, and building support. Draft construction drawings, procures materials for electrical projects. Develop record drawings, and assemble operations and maintenance manuals. Install, maintain and repair motor control centers, switch gear, transfer switches, transformers, combination motor starters, load centers, distribution panels, and similar power handling equipment. Check, troubleshoot and repair motors, standby generators, valve operators and similar prime movers. Check, troubleshoot and repair relay control panels, programmable logic controller hardware, motor starters, adjustable speed drives, burner controls, and other equipment associated with process control. Install, troubleshoot and repair communication mediums and hardware used for process control and the Utility's SCADA system. Communication mediums include RS-232, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet, Spread-Spectrum License-Free Radios, and POT. Check, troubleshoot and repair building support systems including heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, gate controllers, security and fire alarm systems. Use software applications for programmable logic controllers (PLC), motor control, communications, drafting, word documents, spreadsheets and other general office applications. Attend organizational meetings, training sessions and safety meetings.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Special Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and four years of journeyman level experience in the installation, maintenance, and/or repair of electrical management systems, power utilization equipment, electrical support systems, commercial building power, and HVAC systems, instrumentation, and/or process control, common to the water and wastewater industry or a related industry.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current State of Alaska Journeyman Electrician Fitness Card.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
