The Media Planner has the primary day-to-day responsibility for assigned accounts and is expected to be familiar with all account details as they pertain to media. It is s/he who directs those junior to aid in the planning process and it is s/he who provides input to the strategic direction with those senior in order to create the best plans possible. The person who holds this position is expected to not only have a firm grasp of the assigned account, but also to take an active role in the overall management of the client relationship.

Expectations/Responsibilities Include:
Media Expertise
  • Mastering all aspects of media planning including an understanding of how the role of each medium plays in the media process – digital media experience a plus
  • Evaluate media types and vehicles while providing clear direction and rationale
  • Oversee the strategic incorporation of primary, secondary and appropriate research into the development of media plans
  • Write media documents, including plans, memos and POVs with concise rationale
  • Proactively seek and review and/or develop new opportunities. This includes managing the evaluation process and recommendation for clients.
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of key media research tools:
o IMS Research – MRI, Simmons
o IMS Media Delivery Tools – Marketmate TV, Marketmate Radio
o Competitive – KANTAR Stradegy
o MediaTools experience a plus
  • Understand demographic targets and general media habits
o Ability to perform in-depth target analysis activities
  • Working knowledge of budget management and billing practices
Client Service
  • Attend client meetings
  • Understanding of clients business and competitive marketplace
  • Maintain frequent/as needed communication with the client and disseminate pertinent client information to the media team in a timely manner
  • Participate in the presentation of media plans to client
  • Be proactive in providing guidance, creative thinking and direction to clients
Media Relationships
  • Represent Zenith Media in a positive, professional manner both within and outside the agency
  • Meet regularly with media reps and begin to establish upward publishing relationships
Personal Effectiveness
  • Responsible for work accuracy
  • Accountability - Meet deadlines/due dates
  • Proactive not reactive – think about next steps, not just what has been assigned
  • Consistency completes work as directed, focusing on the details and quality of finished assignments
  • Prioritizes accounts, plans and projects appropriately
Team Effectiveness
  • Train and oversee the assistants/trainees in the management of their accounts and the absorption of media fundamentals
  • Convey a strong “team player” attitude
Communication Skills
  • Demonstrate excellent presentation skills
  • Consistently updates AMD on status of plans and projects
  • Provide clear direction to Assistant Media Planners, Media Buyers, Vendors, etc.
  • Strong ability to present ideas, plans and thoughts clearly
  • Exhibit strong writing ability
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-4 year’s media planning experience (agency environment) across all types of media
