Hospital Account Manager
Optimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is seeking a Hospital Account Manager to launch and sell novel antibiotics in the hospital setting within assigned territory. Position requires knowledge and understanding of hospitals in assigned area, including key players and how to successfully navigate the pharmaceutical process. Works in tandem with Optimer employee’s including Medical Education and Research Liaison (MERLS),Health Economist, and Marketing/Public Relations representative for assigned territory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive region market analysis and create and execute a hospital business plan.
Carry out all duties and responsibilities in compliance with applicable regulations and Pharma guidelines.
Lead efforts to ensure Optimer’s products are presented to the pharmacy and therapeutics (P & T) Committee at area hospitals.
Establish and maintain professional relationships with targeted opinion leaders and hospitals, including physicians, medical staff, pharmacies, hospital senior administration, etc.
Identify the decision-makers and key contacts in a hospital account, and establish and maintain professional relationships.
Follow up with customers to gather feedback while addressing questions that are raised with Optimer’s product.
Provide feedback to MERLS, sales management, marketing, and public relations on customer acceptance and utilization of products, responses to promotional campaigns and relevant literature.
Maintain an updated working knowledge of Optimer’s products and relevant disease statistics.
Record and report daily activities via sales force automation system as required by supervisor.
Develop and/or maintain records for assigned territory.
Communicate a current, effective, and accurate sales presentation to customers.
Maintain and operate assigned sales territory within established sales and/or corporate policies, procedures, and standards.
Meet or exceed all established territory sales plan and expense plan goals and objectives.
Complete assigned administrative tasks in a timely, accurate, legible, and organized manner.
Daily travel to customer sites is expected with some overnight travel, depending on the assigned territory. In addition, so overnight travel to corporate headquarters, sales meetings, sales training and related activities will be required on a periodic basis.
Perform all responsibilities following the highest ethical standards, including FDA guidelines and best practices for the pharmaceutical industry.

Safe driving record and valid driver’s license
A minimum of 3 years hospital sales experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech market required, preferably within the anti-infective market.
An exceptional track record of success within growth oriented environments.
Product launch experience a plus.
