A Leadership Development Program participant at ACOSTA will hold three different titles during his/her training period based on the functional area to which he/she is assigned.

The titles are:
  • Retail - LDP Retail Manager – Non-exempt

  • Marketing - LDP Marketing Manager – Exempt

  • Sales - LDP Sales Manager – Exempt

The incumbent is responsible for learning all facets of the Retail, Marketing and Sales functions within a 24 month time frame by attending classroom, desk-side and on-the-job training sessions throughout the entire period. Training will include completing work assignments in the respective areas and may involve actually taking on, temporarily, the responsibilities of positions within each major functional area.

The incumbent will be reviewed by the manager to whom he/she reports, at each six month interval of the twenty four month training period.

  • Learn how to deliver principal volume, share, and sales fundamentals goals (merchandising, assortment, pricing, shelving) for assigned customers at the lowest possible cost.

  • Participate in the development and presentation of interviews of new principals.

  • Comprehend all major retail initiatives (new product introductions, selling drives, contests, etc.).

  • Develop conceptual sales presentations that can deliver principal objectives.

  • Comprehend and review all market pricing reports on a regular basis for accuracy and competitive activity.

  • Learn how Account Coordinators ensure administration is current and accurate.

  • Utilize computer systems and technology to develop conceptual presentations to achieve the objectives of the Customer Business Plan. This includes developing and maintaining personal skill levels to support the use of retail communication systems (RW3) as well as basic analysis tools (IRI Analyzer, Demographics, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Develop strategic plans for category management within assigned departments.

  • Analyze and create base marketing presentations for principals represented by Acosta across the region.

  • Maintain and update all syndicated scanning databases needed in the analysis for account and/or market reviews.

  • Create Marketing presentations within designated department(s) including account and principal business reviews, new item introductions, category reviews, new principal reviews, etc. for use within the region.

  • Participate with Business Managers and principals in the design, implementation and evaluation of local marketing events.

  • Comprehend and integrate Conquest/ScorPLUS demographics information into all reviews and/or presentations where applicable.

  • Utilize and understand IRI and Nielsen syndicated scanning data and systems used to generate the information for category reviews.

  • Routinely visit customers in the market (store audits) with Business Managers to view merchandising and inventory requirements in assigned categories.

  • Assist in presentation of category reviews, new item presentations, business reviews, new principal presentations, etc. to the trade and principals.

  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, Retail, Food Marketing or Business Management completed.

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability through a school organization, volunteer work or work experience.

  • Between 1 - 2 years of experience in sales, marketing or retail environment through internship or work experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Marketing, Sales, Retail, Food Marketing or equivalent work experience.

  • 1 - 2 years of experience in sales, marketing or retail environment through internship or work experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership capability through a school organization, volunteer work or work experience.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of management.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and graphics software.

  • Must be able to analyze sales and marketing information.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, presentation, negotiation and sales skills.

  • Must be able to speak, hear and sit for long periods of time. Must have good vision, dexterous use of both hands and be able to operate a calculator, computer, overhead/slide projector, printer, fax machine, telephone and copier.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a car.
