Serve as a Special Agent in the SLED Computer Crime Center performing digital forensic examinations and conducting complex computer crime investigations for the purpose of enforcing the Code of Laws of the State of South Carolina. Work collaboratively with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and participate in other special projects as assigned.
Perform examinations of electronic media by using digital forensic software to retrieve evidence of criminal activity and provide clear/consice written reports of findings.
Conduct complex investigations in the areas of computer crime (i.e. intrusions, hacking, fraud, child pornography, etc.) by interviewing witnesses/suspects, preparing/serving legal documents, and providing clear/consice written reports of findings.
Collect, preserve, store, transport, and prepare digital evidence for the purpose of conducting forensic analysis.
Testify in criminal court, administrative hearings, and/or provide depositions related to written reports/results of seizure, handling, and analysis of evidence.
Perform duties of a law enforcement officer including statewide powers of arrest and other related duties as required to meet the needs of the agency.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree and six months relevant experience.
Must be currently certified as a Class I Law Enforcement Officer through the SC Criminal Justice Academy or have the ability to acquire the Class I Basic Law Enforcement Certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
Ability to handle confidential data, exercise sound judgment, and follow detailed procedures.
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to conduct complex criminal investigations.
Knowledge of computer imaging procedures.
Knowledge of evidence collection and preservation methods.
Position requires some overnight travel.
