The Child Life Specialist/FVS Coordinator is responsible for coordinating resources and services to provide an environment supportive of children and families receiving care at Children's Hospital, Inc. Child life specialists support children in the health care setting providing developmental and ability appropriate opportunities for children to gain a sense of mastery, play, and learn, encouraging family and peer interaction. This position supports the Radiology department. Child life specialists develop and manage programs, activities, events, spaces, and resources designated for play and recreation throughout CHI demonstrating age-appropriate competencies in providing services and care to children from birth through 21 years as well as adults. Facilitate volunteer participation in developing and sustaining activities and programs which provide developmental, educational, recreational, socialization and convenience services for families and children. Child life specialists must have (or earn within a year of appointment) and maintain professional child life certification (CCLS).
Bachelor's degree in child life, child development or related field with certification eligibility in child life is required .
Prior experience in a pediatric health care setting is required.
Child life specialists must have or earn professional certification (CCLS) through the Child Life Council within a year of appointment in order to maintain their employment; professional certification must be maintained by child life specialists throughout their tenure.
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Experience in program planning, management, and education desired.
Basic computer skills are necessary.
