DESCRIPTION: The Equipment Specialist/CST is responsible for a variety of duties in and around the OR. First and foremost, the Equipment Specialist/CST will strive to maintain a safe and efficient OR for the patient. In addition, the Equipment Specialist/CST will have knowledge of most types of surgery and their unique instrumentation, anticipating surgery equipment needs. The Equipment Specialist/CST assists the surgeon during diagnostic and operative procedures. Assisting may consist of but is not limited to: appropriate operating room set-up, anticipating the surgeon's needs, procuring necessary instrumentation, organization of surgical supplies, and the safe disposal of surgical waste items. The Equipment Specialist/CST will be responsible for decontamination of instrumentation, tray assembly, sterile processing, and sterile processing Quality Assurance procedures. The Equipment Specialist/CST provides equipment in-services for staff, monitors the status of OR equipment regarding maintenance and repair scheduling, and coordinates loaner equipment when necessary. The Equipment Specialist/CST must be adept at setting up and trouble-shooting essential equipment and tools including but not limited to: arthroscopy carts, laparoscopy carts, power tools, fiber-optics, microscopes, endoscopes, cutting/stapling devices and tools, and disposable and non-disposable tools.
REQUIREMENTS: The Equipment Specialist/CST must have five years experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist working in an operating room environment with demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot equipment and tools for all surgical services offered at SPH. Additionally, must have demonstrated expertise as a CST in Ortho, General, OB/GYN, EENT, G.U. and Trauma surgeries. Equipment Specialist/CST is credentialed by the Liaison Council of Certification for the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST). Current requirements mandate that qualified candidates for the certification exam have acquired a certificate or degree from an accredited education program. The Equipment Specialist/CST must maintain current BLS certification.
Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
Rotating Shifts may be required.
