SoundExchange is a DC-based non-profit performance rights organization. SoundExchange collects and distributes statutory royalties from satellite radio (such as SIRIUS XM), Internet radio (like Pandora), cable TV music channels and similar platforms for streaming sound recordings. Since our founding, SoundExchange has overseen the payment of over $1 billion in royalties. With a personnel staff of 147 (which includes full-time staff and temporary employees), we have been growing rapidly and will continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of the music industry.

As our first fulltime in-house Director of Human Resources, you will report to and work closely with the Senior Vice President of Finance. As an HR Department of one, you will help us make the transition from outsourced HR support to in-house support. You will evaluate our current processes, make recommendations, and develop and implement HR programs, policies, and best practices that will continue to cultivate an employee-oriented, high performance culture. You will be responsible for every aspect of employee development and relations (including recruiting and staffing, performance appraisals, organization development, training and employee counseling services). You will also oversee the organization’s payroll and benefits administration. This is an engaged, hands-on leadership role where you will manage the day-to-day HR needs of the organization while leading key HR functions for the organization.

In this role you will serve as a strategic partner to the leadership team and actively contribute to the vision and mission of SoundExchange. You will guide senior leadership, help develop new managers, and be responsive to employee needs. You will support employee engagement, provide coaching and information, and promote a culture of shared values and teamwork. We anticipate continued growth, and are counting on you to advise managers on best practices that will retain top talent and successfully recruit and hire new staff. You will be the frontline face for our corporate values, the go-to resource for all things HR, and a trusted HR partner for leadership and employees alike.

Responsibilities:
Lead the human resources department. Ensure that the vision, values, and culture of the organization are incorporated consistently.

Develop and implement HR business projects and policies designed to proactively meet the needs of the organization. Research best practices and implement strategic recommendations as warranted.

Maintain organizational conformity with applicable HR related regulations and statutes as well as organizational procedures and policies.

Serve as the primary human resources consultant to managers and employees.

Coach managers in an effort to enhance leadership abilities to develop relationships among teams and individuals and to assist with communications and performance.

Manage the recruitment and employment function. Conduct reference and background checks, draft offer letters, and extend job offers as warranted.

Supervise the annual performance review process. Develop and maintain job descriptions for all positions.

Help to identify and resolve employee relations issues.

Work to maintain positive staff morale.

Oversee benefits and payroll administration.

Manage and coordinate the onboarding of new hires (regular and temporary staff) and coordinate the successful off-boarding for departing employees.

Create or identify outside sources for employee training and organizational development programs.

Assist with special projects and other HR initiatives, as assigned.

Requirements:
BS/BA degree in Human Resources Management or a related field required; Master’s Degree in HR-related field or HRCI Certification (SPHR) preferred.

Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible and complex HR management experience in a highly complex and fast paced organization.

Experience developing HR platform for small to mid-sized companies (50-200 employees).

Payroll administration experience with a strong working knowledge of ADP Payroll systems.

Strategic business acumen (including planning) skills, as well as demonstrated organizational, time management and leadership skills.

Deep understanding of HR principles and best practice in the areas of Employee Relations, Performance Management, Recruiting, Organizational Development, Inclusion, Staff Relations, Change Management, Compensation and Legal Compliance.

Solid problem solving, decision-making and proven relationship-building skills. Experience in conflict resolution and employee relation issues.

Organization and project management skills. Proven ability to manage multiple, complex projects.

Strong interpersonal skills: able to build relationships quickly, and connect well at all levels of the organization.

Strong consulting, presentation, facilitation and training skills.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

Strong proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
