REPORTS TO: Project QA/QC Manager, Project Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This is a field position. The QA/QC Inspector Level IV will primarily have responsibility for inspections and tests pertaining to a specific craft such as welding, piping, concrete or mechanical. In addition the Level IV will perform other duties as directed by his/her supervisor. To maximize his/her effectiveness, the Level IV must develop a thorough understanding of the project scope and schedule as they relate to his/her specific assignment.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
The Level IV QA/QC Inspector must be a self-starter, be organized and have good interpersonal skills. Must have an associate degree in engineering technology or science plus two years experience in a related construction field (at least one of these years in a QA/QC position); or a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) plus four years experience in a related construction field (at least two of these years in a QA/QC position). Must have working knowledge of various crafts and their associated special processes, inspection, and testing techniques. Must have working knowledge of construction industry codes relating to their area of expertise (i.e. ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.). Certifications from AWS, ACI, ICBO, ASNT, NACE, API etc. may be required for certain positions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.

2. Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.

3. With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.

4. Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.

5. Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

6. Listen to other employee's and supervisor's suggestions, complaints, problems, safety concerns and recommendations, evaluate each and then devise and implement a plan of action based on that evaluation.

7. Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
Occasionally lift and carry heavy items weighing 80 pounds or more.

9. Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.

10. Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

11. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.

12. Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective actions to eliminate or minimize hazards.

13. Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens.)

14. Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in safe manner.

15. Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.

16. Be motivated and work productively.

17. Develop an understanding of project scope and Quality requirements as they pertain to your specific area of responsibility.

18. Study and understand the Project Quality Plan and other TIC quality documents that pertain to your scope of work.

19. Perform inspections and tests as required by the discipline you are assigned and as directed by supervisor.
Prepare inspection/test reports and maintain the QA/QC files related to your assignment.
Promote and maintain effective communications and relations (verbally and in writing) with supervisor and the project management team.
Be involved in and provide QA/QC input to task planning meetings.
Assist with Quality Plan Implementation Reviews and walk arounds and participate in weekly TQM meetings as required.
Assist with tracking and logging Non-Conformance Reports, Quality/Productivity Improvement Reports and the cost of rework.
Provide training to crafts regarding the project specific quality process and requirements.
Review/approve (initial/date) all 3 rd party test results for compliance with project requirements.
If assigned as Quality Control Inspector (QCI) for Boiler and Pressure Vessel work, be thoroughly familiar with TIC’s Quality Control Manual; perform and document all inspections and tests associated with the ASME work on the assigned project and coordinate Pre and PWHT activities.
Be a liaison with and coordinate third party testing and Authorized Inspection agencies.
Research and answer questions of a technical nature. Assist in the interpretation of construction codes and standards.
Coordinate with the regional office for needed codes, standards and procedures.
Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing essential and primary job functions.
Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
