ABOUT THE FACILITY

Parkview Medical Center is a 305 bed acute care facility located in southern Colorado in the town of Pueblo. Parkview is a private, not for profit, full service acute care facility that also offers extensive behavioral services. Parkview is a full service tertiary hospital and is the market leader with a 370,000 person catchment area (local 160K, outreach 210K). They house a Level II trauma center featuring the only open heart surgery program for all of Southern Colorado. Recognized by U.S. News and World Report in 4 specialties as a top ten hospital in Colorado. Parkview has a new internal medicine residency program, as well as a 92,000 square foot expansion completed within the last three years. Other expansion projects are in progress, including an endoscopy expansion, OR and central sterile expansion. Board members: Parkview Health System (10 self perpetuating), Parkview Medical Center (15 self perpetuated) with cross-over of 4 individuals.

Parkview Medical Center has 320 staffed beds. FTE’s/adjusted occupied bed = 4.9. Net patient revenues are at $260 Million and A/R days = 54 days/net. Bad debt: 9.2% YTD. ADC: 240 (Acute = 175, Behavioral = 45, SNF = 11, IP Rehab = 9). Parkview has 130 active physicians on staff and 200 physicians in consulting/courtesy roles. They use Meditech accounting software.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Parkview Medical Center is looking for a Chief Operations Officer to join our outstanding organization. The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the hospital’s day-to-day operating activities. The COO works with the CEO to manage all aspects of hospital operations, including revenue and sales growth; expense, cost, and margin control; and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial goal management. The COO establishes philosophy, objectives, and long-range plans for the professional and supporting personnel, integrates the various services and departments, and evaluates the effectiveness of initiatives in improving quality of care.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Chief Operating Officer should be an experienced leader who can communicate the leadership’s strategic vision and has the expertise to identify opportunities and methods to improve customer service, work process, and financial performance. The COO must possess the knowledge, patience, and communication skills necessary to design and implement quality improvement initiatives with the various departments, clinical and administrative staff, and the physicians.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. This individual will have a proven record of accomplishment and strong leadership skills, to ensure that the improvement process within the hospital continues, that priorities are established, and that goals are met.

Education & Credentials

A Masters Degree in Business Administration or Health Care Administration is required.

ACHE certification is preferred.

Clinical Background preferred.

The ideal candidate, working as a key member of the Senior leadership team, would possess the following skills:

Five years of VP level operations experience at a large facility ( > 100 beds)

Strong Operations background with proven results in improving bottom line

Understanding of operational and financial impact of HCAHPS scores, as well as Value Based Purchasing (VBP).

Exceptional Communications Skills with strong presentation background

Solid financial background including experience as a financial analyst or working directly with financial analysts to support critical decisions.

Other Experience preferred:
Experience with management of Hospital Construction projects.

Physician practice integration including Specialty Practice such as Orthopedics and Neurosurgery aligning to work with the hospital under both Employment Agreements and Professional Services Agreements.
