NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. This technician position is located in the Repair and Reclamation Shop. Aerospace Systems Section of the Field Maintenance Branch (Organizational Branch ADC only) in the Aircraft Maintenance functional area. This position accomplishes on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft systems and components such as wheel and tire, flight control, canopies, landing gear, and performs general heavy airframe maintenance, beyond the capability of other maintenance activities. Provides capability for the recovery and reclamation of equipment of damaged or crashed aircraft.

(1) Performs all phases of the repair and reclamation process for crashed on damaged aircraft utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slings, forklifts, and other heavy equipment. Maintains and stores the special equipment identified and assigned to the crash recovery mission.

(2) Serves on the flight control team and may coordinate team functions. Participates in flight crew debriefing, troubleshooting, repairing and replacing components as required.

(3) Advises on and participates in the removal, rigging, and replacement of flight control surfaces, portable huffet and lavatory units. Utilizes a wide variety of technical gauges, instruments and tools such as bead breakers, micrometers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, torque wrenches, tension meters, weight and balance testers and inside and outside calipers to test, overhaul, rig and install major airframe components.

(4) Accomplishes organizational and intermediate level maintenance, which involves major repairs, TCTO's and/or flight controls, landing gears, doors and canopies and associated equipment requiring structural or components maintenance beyond the capabilities of other activities.

(5) Performs intermediate level maintenance on aircraft wheel and tires and may also accomplish organizational maintenance such as wheel and tire and brake changes. When a supply point for build-up assets is established in the shop, will insure DIFM assets processing and procedures are accomplished according to applicable directives.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • CREDITING EXPERIENCE: NATIONAL GUARD SERVICE MAY BE CREDITED AS FULL-TIME EXPERIENCE WHEN EVALUATED AGAINST THE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR A MILITARY TECHNICIAN POSITION. EXPERIENCE MUST BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POSITION AND MUST BE DESCRIBED IN THE WORK EXPERIENCE SECTION OF THE APPLICATION AND/OR RESUME. THE LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE IS DETERMINED BY THE ACTUAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMED. BE DESCRIPTIVE, A SIMPLE LIST OF JOB TITLES AND DATES WILL NOT SUFFICE.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must possess at least 18 months of specialized experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification on the type of aircraft of this organization. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance of ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Experience in inspecting the full range of mechanical systems with the ability to analyze existing problems and take corrective action. Experience using a wide variety of technical publications to include complex schematics and specifications.

KSA'S:
1. Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions.

2. Ability to diagnose trouble and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required.

3. Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results.

4. Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft.

5. Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures.

Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignment must be followed.
