A supervisor at the Covidien-Maryland Heights facility is responsible for ensuring accountability, transparency, and effective communication cross-functionally and within his/her team while ensuring information is timely, clear and accurate. By coaching and developing his/her team to High Performance, he/she will foster a team ownership culture that ensures compliance with all Corporate and Local policies, procedures and regulations. While supervising in a cGMP environment, he/she must maintain operational compliance with U.S. and international regulatory agencies (i.e. FDA, NRC, etc.) In addition, he/she must supply the highest level of both internal and external customer service. To effectively recognize and reward performance, the supervisor must measure and communicate the team’s progress against individual, team and site goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
The Distribution Transportation Supervisor is responsible for a high-paced nuclear radiopharmaceutical distribution center that interacts with all levels of the organization. Responsibilities include meeting shipping schedules to ensure on-time delivery, area security, adherence to safety standards, and development of direct reports. Daily communication with key internal and external customers is necessary in order to meet customer commitment times. Knowledge of the various government regulations is essential in order to ship radioactive material. They will provide training for required site personnel of all required regulatory bodies including the United States Department of Transportation, the International Air Transport Association, and the International Civil Aviation Organization. Priorities include ensuring the execution and continuous improvement of standard logistics processes as well as integrating learning from customers, competitors, operating entities, distribution, transportation, customer service, other industries, industry groups, and professional training to continuously improve our competitive position.
Manage daily customer and carrier related administrative tasks including problem resolutions. Manage daily transportation problem resolution of customer shipments with continuous improvement approach.
Identify opportunities to reduce cost, reduce risk and improve service. Perform route analysis/optimization.
Direct all related transportation functions toward continued efficiencies. Direct, track and maintain internal transportation and carrier performances.
Monitor finished goods and maintain accurate records of all sales transactions. Maintain balance of all computer and physical inventories. Mediate delayed deliveries to reconcile complaints for internal and external customers.
Responsible for being on call on a rotating basis and available to work weekends. Ensure accountability, transparency, and effective communication cross-functionally and within the team while ensuring information is timely, clear and accurate.
Work with multiple departments to coordinate, review and approve weekly production schedules and departmental maintenance activities; and ensure efficient scheduling in order to meet customer requirements and team financial goals.
Coach and develop the team to High Performance while fostering a culture of team ownership. Ensure team compliance with all policies, procedures and site/company regulations. Set clear vision by ensuring goals and objectives are aligned with site strategies and managing each team member’s performance management.
Exhibit accountability and responsibility for an area or process in order to affect change and lead efforts and ideas to completion. Provide input on equipment installation, start-up operation and trouble shooting.
Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training and development and eliminate roadblocks in order for the team to move forward.
Supply the highest level of internal and external customer service while having the ability to diplomatically challenge established procedures and systems.
Understand and provide education and feedback to team regarding business and financial impact of decisions/actions.
Lead and/or support all investigations. Author, approve and/review all area quality and safety exceptions and investigation reports. Ensure on-time completion of all corrective action items assigned to area.
Verify, review and make appropriate changes if needed, to any controlled document pertinent to area of responsibility.
Ensure all direct reports maintain ALARA and manage their daily activities accordingly to ensure they meet their quarterly ALARA goals.
Hold weekly team meetings and daily QIP board meetings to update employees and track progress.
Manage the department’s overtime (OT) and ensure that all exception reports are completed and submitted on time to Payroll bi-weekly.
Lead team in continuous improvement activities and take control when faced with adversity while incorporating team input.
Ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of the department, premises and equipment.
Measure and communicate team’s progress against individual, team and site goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
Maintain an acceptable level of 5S in the area.
Communicate issues appropriately utilizing the area’s escalation plan.
Recognize and reward performance.
Complete and maintain the distribution supervisor’s OJT qualifications.
Education required/ preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Business Logistics or a related field. MBA preferred.
1-3 years leadership experience and 3-5 years experience managing transportation/distribution activities preferably in a manufacturing environment. Proven track record of meeting/exceeding customer commitments.
Highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong data management and analysis skills. Lean/Kaizen/Six Sigma experience. Experience working with High Performance Teams. Cross-functional experience. Experience with developing/documenting procedures.
