Position Summary:
The Department of Health, Exercise and Sport Sciences (HESS) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Athletic Training Education Program, probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision, beginning August 2013. The mission of the HESS department is to positively impact the citizens of New Mexico and other regions through teaching, research, and service pertaining to healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, lifetime physical activity and sports participation. Within the department undergraduate students are prepared to be highly qualified teachers and community leaders in health education and physical education; qualified professionals in athletic training; and qualified health/fitness instructors for fitness centers, corporate fitness programs, outpatient physical therapy, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs. Graduate students join HESS programs to improve their practice or move into careers in higher education as a university professor; to move into leadership positions in community, public health or worksite settings, high school, college, or professional sports; to become researchers, and preventative and/or rehabilitative program directors. In each of our programs, the faculty is committed to developing professionals who will impact the health and wellness of children, adolescents, and adults. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in the Athletic Training related curriculum and maintain office hours in accordance with department policy. Additionally, the candidate will maintain an active research agenda and assist with student advisement, student recruitment, and maintenance of CAATE accreditation. Minimum Qualifications:
1) Doctorate in Physical Education or related area conferred by August 2013. 2) Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct and publish original research in the area of teaching competence/athletic training.

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Doctorate in Physical Education or related area; 2) Demonstrated experience or potential to teach undergraduate level courses in a CAATE accredited athletic training program. May include Introduction to Athletic Training, General Medical Conditions in Athletic Training, Therapeutic Modalities, Pharmacology in Athletic Training, Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries, Athletic Training Administration, Kinesiology and others; 3) Experience with CAATE accreditation; 4) Strong interpersonal and communication skills; 5) NATA member in good standing; 6) BOC Certification; 7) Experience working with culturally diverse groups.
