Role Purpose/Accountabilities:Role Purpose:
  • Supervises services at the Health Services site in St. Gabriel, La. which coordinates services of full time Occupational RN, 1 contract nurse and 1 contract physician. Candidate not only functions in a supervisory role but also performs in clinical role at the site.
  • Serves as the focal point for St. Gabriel Wellness ranging from input to employees combining results of the physicals, HRA, and ongoing findings during the year.
  • Motivates staff to perform at efficient and customer focused level. - Responsible to operate clinic within budgeted expenses.
  • Utilize standardized process to capture findings and necessary follow up from physical examinations and other programs
  • Coordinate and communicate with HR business partners and site management on fitness for duty, return to work, and medical clearance, as applicable, following HIPPA guidelines.
  • Provide health coaching to employees for disease management and health maintenance
  • Maintain confidential medical records, within HIPAA guidelines
  • Case management of STD and workers compensation cases to bring employees back to productive employment ASAP.
  • Working with Health Services team: Develop and refine ongoing processes, policies and procedures; utilize date collected from the HAs, Reaping Rewards, health care claims, short term disability, and workers’ compensation to drive program design, while participating in wellness and other team activities, as indicated;
Accountabilities:
  • Accountable to Syngenta Health Manager in Greensboro and is active team member with Syngenta Health Services Team- Interface with contract physician in providing medical services, administering standing orders, and approval of policies and procedures at St. Gabriel site.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Critical knowledge: :
  • Registered Nurse License - Nursing assessment and judgment for acute and chronic injuries/illnesses/ BS Degree
  • COHC (Hearing Conservation Certification)COHN/S-CM (Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist / Case Manager)Instructor of CPR/First
  • AidTriage Emergency situations- Basic EMT/Emergency medical experience
  • Business experience to handle occupational clinic and budget/explain variances in cost center
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Medical database applications
Critical experience:
  • Minimum of at least 5 years in Occupational Nursing or in an acute care setting. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable
  • Ability to work testing equipment such as pulmonary spirogram, hearing booth, fit testing, and all other medical equipment

Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges: Critical success factors & key challenges:

  • Coordinates/performs OSHA mandated exams for Syngenta and contract personnel including but not limited to the following: hearing conservation testing, pulmonary testing, respiratory clearances, fit testing, Hazwoper/Emergency Response work up for physicals.
  • Supervising and administering first-aid to all employees. Work related injuries-Contract employees receive initial first-aid during normal working hours from RN and sent for follow-up to contract medical. Syngenta employees are case managed through Health Services with cooperation and assistance of contract physician. Oversees medical staff including nurses, physicians and administrative assistant.
  • Coordinates/performs voluntary physicals on Syngenta employees per screening protocol.
  • Offers sick-call visits for employees and contractors to increase productivity and reduce time away from work. Conducts wellness seminars to address health education needs for plant as well as appropriate safety training for employees including procedures for injuries/illnesses in relation to chemical exposure for existing and new chemicals.
  • Serves as custodian of medical records of medical records of employees and secures confidentiality as well as provides access to medical records for employees and terminated employees.
  • Provides/coordinates appropriate preventative services such as vaccinations and cancer screenings such as mammograms, skin cancer screenings, etc.
  • Collaborates with management for return to work, restrictions, disability review and safety of employees. Works with human resources, safety, and appropriate unit personnel to ensure above is handled appropriately.
  • Works with employees once activated in short-term disability system to case manage absences related to injury/illnesses. Obtains appropriate paperwork on appropriate basis and communicates information on RTW and restrictions to management. Serves as advocate for employee’s timely RTW.
  • Site coordinator for workers compensation program. On call for HCN/HCN operations which require RN present at the site for possible administration of IV antidote for Cyanide exposure. Trains plant annually for HCN antidote.
  • Employee assistance coordinator at the plant site. Advises employees in need of counseling regarding the program. Works with managers in ensuring that counseling is available for employees on probation or having performance issues.
  • Administers/supervises random drug screen program as well as for-cause drug screening per management criteria. Trains PSS (Plant Safety Superintendents) on performance of for cause protocol for non-routine off hour drug/alcohol screening. Works with IH (Safety) to identify environmental/occupational hazards in the workplace and offers education to address needs such as blood borne pathogen training, heat stress/hydration programs, etc.
  • Site coordinator for Reaping Rewards program by educating employees on program and local incentives. Coordinates program information/changes on a personal/group basis to employees with plant updates, emails, answer sessions and help from wellness team.
  • Responsible for keeping inventory in plant medical for daily needs and emergency needs. Works with Plant Safety Superintendents to maintain adequate inventory for ambulance. Maintains AED in working order by maintaining logs for plant and troubleshooting any equipment problems with manufacturer.
  • Provides counseling and referrals for employees with risk factors such as elevated blood pressure, blood glucose levels, hyperlipidemia, elevated liver enzymes, elevated PSA levels, etc.
  • Promotes health and wellness of employees by organizing wellness initiatives such as on-site produce stand and exercise classes. CPR and Blood borne pathogen instructor for plant.
