Formulate and develop communications requirements and design standards. Perform complex studies to determine networking capacities and reliability, and make recommendations to augment and/or enhance existing communications networks. Provide technical problem diagnoses and resolution support for all associated subsystems, including line monitoring, modem loop-back tests, LAN performance monitoring and terminal failure determination. Provide hardware and software installation and configuration support.

Responsibilities:

Provides operational support for unclassified and classified network infrastructure which includes network design,
installation, configuration, and maintenance, expansion, modification, integration, redundancy, diagnosis and testing.

Performs the management of physical infrastructure which includes Cisco routers, switches, UPS/Temp sensors, Juniper, Palo Alto, Cisco firewalls and Fluke communications testing devices; fiber optic and twisted pair based
infrastructure.

Analyzes network traffic, data link and computer interface protocol, security requirements and risk.

Recommends solutions for new equipment, software, network configuration, design, and management to include the detail, specification, hardware components, and part numbers.

Configures VPN concentrator and VLANs.

Maintains records, documentation, diagrams of network topology and equipment configurations.

Installs, configures, and maintains switches, routers, firewalls, and other network devices.

Builds, configures, and maintains servers.

Installs, removes, configures and repairs encryption equipment.

Performs diagnostic tests on the network components using portable testers, fixed network monitoring stations and software contained in network devices.

Performs corrective tasks including replacing cut or damaged copper or fiber optic cable; excavation of buried cables, interacting with commercial communications providers to report and correct problems, resetting or replacing devices that malfunction due to voltage surges associated with electrical storms or other causes, and adjusting configuration of network communications or routing devices via switches, plugs or keyboards.

Qualifications:

A Certificate of Continuing Education or Associates Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

At least three (3) years experience in IT datacenter environment for large IT organization.

Comptia Security + certification required.

Comptia Network + certification desirable.

Cisco certification desirable.

Must be a US citizen.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. Active Secret clearance highly desired.

Other Essential Functions:

OS and hardware hands-on experience in Unix platform (Solaris/AIX), Linux and Windows Server preferred.

In-depth knowledge in IP networking, Cisco equipment and structure cabling.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Able to work independently and in close cooperation with a team.
