Director of Sales directly generates revenue and is also responsible for revenue generation through the supervision of employees with direct revenue responsibility. They develop product/solution-, vertical-, and account-level strategy to ensure overall sales strategy is being executed. Their focus is on a specific market or product/solution. Director of Sales typically leads a sales team of 3-6 sales professionals focused on expanding marketshare for a specific product/solution within a suite of products/solutions or in a specific vertical/marketplace. They assist sales professionals with making calls and closing deals. Director of Sales spends the majority of their time developing account-level strategy, cultivating relationships, closing deals, and managing staff. They may have broad geographic scope. The Director of Sales is not recognized as a Corporate Director in terms of pay and benefits.
