SharpShooter is seeking a Linux System Administrator

  • Installation and configuration of new hardware, software and OS.
  • Patch management of Linux servers and workstations.
  • User account management.
  • Provide Linux operating system support.
  • Analyze system logs and proactively identify potential issues with systems.
  • Perform system backups and restores of assigned systems.
  • Address operations systems issues including file and share permissions, user accounts
    and installing applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve reported problems.
  • Provide metrics for capacity management purposes.
  • Interface with software development team and other business units and provide services as
  • Document existing Linux infrastructure and maintain documentation through change control
  • Document processes and provide training to Service Desk personnel as required.
  • Provide Tier 2 support to internal Service Desk.
  • Participate in peer reviews of proposed changes.
  • Actively pursue environment enhancements to improve security, stability, efficiency and performance.


At least 5+ years of Systems Administration in an enterprise environment using Linux, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Windows systems and integration between the two platforms. Microsoft platforms will include Server 2008 Active Directory and Exchange 2010 as well as Windows servers of various flavors. Linux platforms will include but are not limited to Red Hat and CentOS. College degree preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure.
  • Liaise with vendors and professional services.
  • Knowledge of Server Applications.
  • An understanding of patch management software.
  • An understanding of Backup software and strategies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of network applications, web servers, email servers, firewalls, databases, file shares and print servers.
  • Experience architecting, implementing and managing Linux environments. Focus on supporting load-balanced web servers with back-end databases.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Server Operating Systems.
  • Experience using and managing VMWare virtualized environments.
  • Experience working in a process and policy driven environment (change control, ITIL/COBIT,
  • Network and Systems Security.
  • An understanding of patch management software.
  • An understanding of backup software and strategies.
  • Understanding and experience supporting network applications, web servers, email servers,
    firewalls, databases, file shares and print servers.
  • Web development experience. HTML, PHP, JAVA, JavaScript or other languages. This is
    not a development position but supports a development team.
  • Database administration and tuning. MySQL, MSSQL
    and Sybase.
  • Experience working in a mixed OS environment.
  • Experience supporting a globally distributed environment.
  • Experience managing remote servers
  • Experience with configuring and using automated tools (SVN, etc.) to push software and
    patch updates to remote servers.
  • Experience designing and managing highly available/redundant environments.
  • Familiarity with scripting as part of the Linux infrastructure management.
