Job Summary:
This job is responsible for replenishing and distributing materials and equipment according to preprinted quota documents/instruments on established routes. An incumbent also decontaminates surgical instruments, patient care items, and utensils.

Essential Duties :
  • Arranges, delivers, and picks up all material, equipment, and medical records for hospital operation; function-checks all equipment received from decontamination area, as well as new equipment.
  • Sets up and maintains medical traction and orthopedic equipment.
  • Takes a complete inventory and replenishes supply cart/lockers and lockers by using hand held computer unit and/or computerized documents; inventories daily equipment not being used by patients; verifies equipment charges (i.e., type, style, and length of time rented) being made by various hospital equipment rental companies for equipment being rented by various FHS entitles for patient use.
  • Receives, identifies, and decontaminates patient care items, carts, and other miscellaneous supplies and utensils; tracks equipment usage and movement with patient, following up with patient and processing charges or credits as appropriate.
  • Operates equipment used in the decontaminating process (i.e. clothes washers and dryers); handles storage of sterile supplies to assure the integrity of the sterility and maintains sterile shelf life; sets up and disseminates scheduled and emergency surgical case carts; maintains an adequate level of working supplies by notifying the supervisor; monitors items that are in need of repair and will takes to either Bio Med. or Facilities Services for repair.
Performs related duties as required.

Education/Work Experience Requirements:
  • Six months of recent related work experience, preferably as an orderly in a hospital setting or as a medic in the Armed Services, OR an combination of experience and education that would demonstrate the capability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Completion of a qualified related vocational training course and basic computer entry-level experience are preferred.
