SAIC currently has an opening for a Senior Technical Writer to provide direct support to the Air Force Medical Evaluation Support activity (AFMESA) located at Fort Detrick, MD.
The Senior Technical Writer will provide multimedia project execution for multiple government and corporate customers, and also provide proofreading, editorial, writing support, and publication of various test related documents, to include assessment execution documents, assessment final reports, technical reports, briefing presentations, and various proposals for assigned projects. The individual will work in a team environment, leading and coordinating technical editors, technical writers, graphic artists, and photographers at AFMESA and with Media Center personnel in Albuquerque, NM. The individual will interface with various Test Directors, project managers, Program Managers, customers and technical staff, as appropriate, to create quality products that adhere to established assessment methodologies, document templates, and reporting requirements, and comply with customer requirements. Assignments are based on objectives and established goals, with the work reviewed by management to measure objectives. Recommendations to changes in policy and procedures are welcome and expected. Tasks are of a diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Use of independent judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions is required. The writer will need to meet frequent, quick-turnaround deadlines and provide concurrent support for multiple projects. A style sheet or existing template will be utilized for each task. The writer will ensure entire projects are completed on time and meet the customer’s satisfaction. This will include reviews and QA checks on all published work, training staff on current methods, researching technical subjects as necessary, in depth writing and analysis, military and medical jargon definition, an understanding of mathematics, and scientific/medical terminology. The individual will need the knowledge and experience to handle seldom occurring job events, determining methods and procedures on new assignments and the ability to provide guidance to non-exempt personnel. Excellent knowledge of style guides such as GPO, Chicago, and AP is required. This position requires an individual who is self-starter with exceptional interpersonal and liaison skills and can work as a senior writer/technical writer. The individual will normally receive no instruction on routine work and typically general instructions on new assignments.
BA/BS required. Degree in English or Technical Communication preferred.
Candidate must have excellent written and verbal skills, be detail oriented, and have advanced skills with Microsoft Office products, to include Word and PowerPoint. This position requires responsiveness to changing work load requirements and the ability to adapt to fluid product deadlines and priorities. A minimum of three years editing or equivalent experience is required. Exemplars of previously performed work will be requested for review.
Working knowledge of the following software applications is considered a plus: Adobe Design Premium Suite, to include Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat. Also, Flash programming and Print to Flash.
Candidate must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense secret-level security clearance.
