Provides direct supervision to the Kentucky Main Street Program the statewide downtown revitalization program of the State Historic Preservation Office. Interprets, applies, enforces, develops and recommends the utilization of the Main Street Four-Point Approach in compliance with the National Trust’s Main Street Center. Serve as a clearinghouse on state information on downtown revitalization, economic development, and related subjects. Serve as statewide advocate for downtown business districts, state policy regarding downtown revitalization, and the state Main Street program. Serve as liaison and grant writer for state and federal agencies grants and other resources. Monitor the fiscal, physical, and attitudinal results of local Main Street programs’ efforts. Work closely with the local Main Street executive directors and volunteers through weekly contact, periodic on site visits, meetings, training sessions, and written information. Publicize the state Main Street program and the Main Street Four-Point Approach™ through media, conferences, and speeches. Coordinate a competitive application process to select or designate local Main Street organizations for participation in the statewide program. Coordinate state and local downtown revitalization conferences and workshops; including shared responsibility of the biennial Statewide Preservation Conference in partnership with Site Development Program Manager and Public Information Officer. Develop training and promotional materials for local Main Street programs. Assist local Main Street programs in identifying priority projects. Coordinate and implement design assistance programs to Main Street communities. Provide on site organizational assistance as needed to Main Street communities. Manage and monitor the budget of the state Main Street program. Develop programs which can be implemented at the state level beneficial to downtown revitalization activities. Serve as the primary liaison with the National Trust Main Street Center, maintaining regular contact and submitting annual information about the state Main Street program, including reinvestment statistics, updated local program list, and a list of accredited local Main Street organizations. Assist the National Trust Main Street Center in all on site training programs, resource team visits, and other technical assistance activities. This position will coordinate and partner with our non-profit organizations of Friends of Kentucky Main Street Program and Preservation Kentucky.

Work is typically performed in the field with frequent travel throughout the state. Other times the work is preformed in an office setting. Selection Method : Qualifying: All candidates who apply and meet the minimum requirements are eligible for placement on the register for hiring consideration. Group : RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS Characteristics of the Class : Serves as consultant, technical advisor and program director to local and state agencies, organizations and property owners in relation to a program(s) of the State Historic Preservation Office. Administers federal and state grants awarded to local sponsors. Provides supervision to professional program staff; and performs other duties as required. Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements : Work is typically performed in an office setting.
