JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Manager works in partnership with the Store Manager to drive the sales and financial performance of the store. A typical store has a crew of 1—4 associates, with approximately $100,000 of inventory. The Assistant Manager helps in achieving the financial goals of the store by ensuring that the staff is properly trained and motivated; by providing excellent and consistent customer service, by controlling inventory; and controlling the costs associated with running a store.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE: The ideal internal candidate will have at least two years experience in store operations, and preferably experience as a key holder for at least six months.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Merchandising / Sales Building
A. Maintains clean and neat store environment
Cleanliness / neatness
In stock conditions
Max / min maintenance
B. Manages product display
Manages shipment / receipt of goods
Promotional merchandising
Correct pricing
C. Promotes sales building
Maintains focus on customer service
Manages in-store promotional activities
Involved in telemarketing / field sales calls when
appropriate
II. Maintains Gross Margin
A. Pricing control
Manages discount activity
Manages damages and discontinued product
B. Asset protection
Conducts regular cycle counts
Prepares store for annual physical inventories
III. Controls Costs
A. Labor control
Maintains appropriate store staffing
Schedules and reports labor on a weekly basis
B. P&L review
Monthly review of store costs
IV. Develops Human Resources
A. Crew staffing and training
Assists Regional in recruitment / hiring
Assists Regional in promotion / transfer of associates
Manages in-store development and training
B. Crew discipline
Progressive discipline
Action plans
Demotion / termination (with assistance from Regional and HR)
V. Other Duties
A. Complies to Sales “Mini” Budgets
B. Attends regularly scheduled manager meetings
C. Complies with all government agency guidelines and regulations

D. Assists other stores in special projects when necessary

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent GED
Demonstrated customer service skills
Outstanding communication skills
Must have basic reading skills to read labels, literature, policy manuals etc.
Basic math skills and the ability to make change required
Must be able to work weekends as schedule allows
Must be able to maintain a professional appearance and provide a positive company image to the public
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs
Frequent bending, stooping lifting, gripping, twisting and reaching
Must be able to stand and walk about the store throughout scheduled shift
Experience in retail or related experience strongly preferred
