DESCRIPTION

Sunflower Electric Power Corporation is seeking a motivated individual who is willing to gain exposure to installing, inspecting, testing, and repairing substation equipment including power transformers, load tap changers, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and various electronic systems with the majority of the duties involving working with alternating current (ac) and direct current (dc) circuits between 48 and 600 volts.

DUTIES

Maintenance and Repair Willing to gain exposure to the operation and maintenance of substations. Willing to gain knowledge of common and advanced maintenance testing, including insulation power factor, insulation resistance, contact resistance, turns ratio, high potential, current injection, breaker time/travel, and oil and gas analysis of circuit breakers, voltage regulators, transformers, and other substation equipment. Willing to gain knowledge and experience in assisting with maintenance of mechanical and electrical parts of circuit breakers, control panels, relay panels, ac and dc circuits, batteries, battery chargers, and transformers; and maintaining substation yard, fence, gate, and security systems. Gain knowledge and experience assisting with troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic stored energy systems and stand-by generators. Assist with the operation and maintenance of our oil reclamation equipment. Gain exposure to substation switching procedures during planned and emergency repairs.ConstructionWilling to gain experience in assisting with various phases of substation construction; constructing foundations; erecting structures; wiring panels; installing buses, switches, breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitors, circuit switchers, ac and dc systems, conduit and cable raceways, and grounding systems; pulling terminate cable; and installing control metering and relay panels. Assist with acceptance testing of installed equipment and substation commissioning. Inspection and DocumentationWilling to gain experience in assisting with monthly inspections and gathering all necessary data for generation of reports and updating of records. Repair and correct any abnormal findings. Inspect and maintain dc battery systems, dc control circuitry, current transformer (CT) & potential transformer (PT) circuits, and all other compliance documentation as necessary.Support the replacement of spare parts used in repair activities. Safety Maintain safety awareness and comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures to assure a safe working environment. Properly wear and care for applicable safety gear and equipment. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions to supervisor, coworkers, and the Safety Department and correct or assist in resolving safety concerns and issues. Must understand and comply with the Clearance Procedure as applicable. QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Currently enrolled in a post high school technical certification program in industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics.Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesWilling to gain knowledge of the transmission system to ensure system work orders and switching can be done in a safe manner.Willing to gain experience in reading and understanding construction and manufacturers' drawings and specifications.Willing to gain experience in reading and understanding schematic diagrams and substation drawings. Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position.Willing to gain knowledge in operating computers and associated programs at the level required to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
