University of California Santa Cruz Senior Development Director-University Library University Relations JOB #1203653 FULL TIME; CAREER Starting Salary Range: $6,050-$8,475/monthly. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Strategic Philanthropy (AVCSP), and working closely and collaboratively with the University Librarian, and librarians, the Senior Director of Development (SDOD) for the University Library will strategically plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate a fund-raising program to secure and increase philanthropic support from individuals, corporations and foundations for the priorities of the division as determined by the University Librarian and the Associate Vice Chancellor Strategic Philanthropy.

The Senior Director's major responsibilities will include managing the university's relationship with current University Library Division donors and prospective donors who give or are capable of giving at the $100,000 level or above, and in preparation for the comprehensive campaign, the Senior Director will prepare a strategic plan to develop and implement all components of a giving program with specific emphasis on initiating a plan for Library development to identify and qualify new prospects. The Senior Director will design and implement comprehensive strategies to identify and cultivate the highest capacity individuals, build engagement of these individuals with the University Library, create gift opportunities based on divisional priorities, formulate and coordinate fundraising strategies and solicitations, and determine appropriate recognition and stewardship plans for significant donors. The Senior Director will involve the trustees, other high-level volunteers and leaders in connecting these donors to the Library and deepen their interest and involvement. The Senior Director will consult with the Director of Leadership Giving to develop donor strategy and implement this strategy as appropriate.

The Senior Director will supervise the Associate Director of Development and an Administrative Assistant support staff. Qualifications include: • Bachelor's degree, in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Substantial and increasingly responsible experience in the designing, directing, and participating in a major, successful fundraising effort, including proven effectiveness in soliciting major gifts. • Knowledge of contemporary issues for, and methods of institutional advancement and fundraising.

  • Management, organizational, strategic planning and pragmatic consensus-building skills and experience to work with faculty and staff to establish effective priorities, achieve goals and objectives, and coordinate the varied programs and projects of a complex development program. • Experience in motivating and mentoring professional staff, with ability to use team management techniques to inspire a collegial work style that promotes a successful fundraising operation.
