The Director, Packaging and Creative Services for our Merck Consumer Care Group ( MCC) oversees the development and project management activities to assure the creation and execution of insight-driven packaging that strengthens the bond between consumer and brand. Working with the Global Franchises, develops the design strategy to ensure consistent presentation of brands around the world. Position is charged with leading the entire design and commercial execution process for packaging from development of the creative brief to marketplace introduction of packaging. The incumbent oversees the packaging team and third party resources including on-site consultants and design agencies. The position is also responsible for the management and deployment of all digital assets and all repositories and systems for distribution. The incumbent also oversees creative services support for consumer activation programs, some digital programs and marketing collateral.

Oversees all packaging development projects
Collaborates with global franchises and local marketing and production functions from inception through live product
In concert with Packaging Science, ensures research and development of all packaging components including testing and evaluation
Collaborates with and guides global franchises and local marketing in the creation of clear communications briefs including messaging and communications hierarchies
Oversees any visual audits and the creates brand standards and package style guides
Reviews manufacturing capabilities and plans production resources
Guides agencies in the development of concepts and presentation of designs including any plan-o-gram visualization
Ensures timely pre-production meetings, design approvals and all routing of art work. The incumbent is well versed in all developmental steps and production processes such as aesthetic/color approvals, die line verification, delivery of high resolution files, color correction and print checks.
Oversees Digital Asset Management and "Brand Hubs" for distribution of brand assets that are essential in packaging, advertising and promotion. Oversees all other support systems for artwork routing and approval.
Develops and maintains a professional knowledge of new or emerging trends or technologies and leads knowledge sharing within the packaging team and broader organization Manages all vendor and agency relationships
Provides leadership to the Packaging and Creative Services Team including overall vision for the unit, creation of career paths and talent management
Manages U.S. Creative Services manager in the development and execution of creative for select consumer activation and digital marketing programs

Bachelors degree in Design or a related technical discipline
12 years consumer goods packaging design and print experience preferably with products that have regulatory requirements such as OTC Medicines
Experience with global brands and working across markets and proven track record of building brands through innovative package design
Significant experience with production aspects of package development
Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing groups, agencies and packaging vendors.
Understanding of software supporting the discipline and of the Mac platform including, but not limited to, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, Illustrator and File Maker Pro
Experience managing distribution and routing systems
Travel to vendors and manufacturing sites will be required (@ 10% of time)
