Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director, Employee and Labor Relations, the Human Resources Generalist is primarily responsible for general Human Resources' functions at Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Institute to include employee relations, recruitment and retention activities, training, and orientation as well as human resource functions at Akron General Medical Center as needed. Works in collaboration with the Akron General Medical Center Human Resources staff to ensure compliance with state and federal employment regulations and adherence to Akron General policies and procedures.

Job Duties:
Provides guidance and direction to managers regarding Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure consistent enforcement. Works in collaboration with AGMC Employee and Labor Relations staff to provide effective communications and problem resolution. Addresses employee relations concerns with employees and managers. Serves as a liaison in facilitating resolution to problems. Manages unemployment process and assists as employer's representative at unemployment hearings. Conducts interviews and prepares reports for harassment and discrimination investigations. Ensures compliance with all Human Resources related policies, laws, and regulations. Coordinates aspects of recruitment, retention, employee benefits, and compensation administration, training, and new employee orientation in collaboration with AGMC Human Resources staff. Processes personnel requisitions for internal, external, and temporary placements within established timeframes. Identifies sources for potential candidates and maintains pool of qualified applicants, particularly for high turnover positions. Continually looks for new and creative ways to enhance the recruitment process. Sources and recruits applicants for open positions through the posting and bidding process, job fairs, and the Internet/Intranet. Prepares journal and newspaper advertisements as required. Performs reference and background checks on applicants (eg, prior/current employment, license verification, Office of Inspector General (OIG) lists of excluded individuals/entities and criminal background checks). Processes personnel actions for new hires, promotions, transfers, disciplinary and terminations. Completes and distributes personnel status worksheets in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains all electronic and hard copy employee files and records (eg, new hire paperwork, open enrollment, leaves of absence, workers compensation, unemployment, discipline, payroll, performance). Ensures accuracy and timely completion of all records. Resolves discrepancies. Works closely with AGMC's Case Manager Human Resources and Workers Comp/LOA Specialist to ensure accurate and timely processing of paperwork related to Workers Compensation and leaves of absence. Facilitates employee return-to-work and modified duty programs. Coordinates and facilitates training as required or requested, including new employee orientation/service excellence and other classes as able. Assists with special projects and events related to Human Resources or Edwin Shaw. Assists with human resource functions at Akron General Medical Center as needed. Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Follows hospital/system and department policies and procedures and other applicable standards (ie, Common Rule, HIPAA) with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

Five years progressively responsible Human Resources experience required.

SPHR or PHR certification preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations.

Ability to present information to individuals or groups in a clear and concise manner.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and HRIS applications.

Ability to manage people and projects.
