Job Summary

The University of St. Thomas, Client Services department in the Division of Information Resources & Technologies, is accepting applications for a Technical Support Specialist. Under direct supervision, this position provides first and second-tier rapid technical support for student, faculty and staff clients, including critical classroom technology issues, university desktop computers and printers in the Information Commons and other public lab areas. This person may be required to work on both campuses, as advised by the direct supervisor.

The person in this position will be required to work 8 hour shifts from an early start of 7:00 am (working until 4:00 pm) or starting late, 11:00 am (working until 8:00 pm) shift, and may be on a rotating schedule. This person is also required to carry a provided cell/email device for communications during business hours.

The Technical Support Specialist's responsibilities include providing on-site computer troubleshooting, problem resolution and maintenance for desktop computers and printers and acting as liaison between IRT Tech Desk and Rapid Response Team. Perform routine administrative duties (inventory maintenance, email, voicemail, and customer communications). Remain current with and follow IRT Client Services procedures for Sharepoint, Web Help Desk, Installation & Inventory, IRT Communication guidelines, and customer communication and technology trends; effectively collaborates, communicates and adds value to team goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Equivalent to a High School diploma and three years of experience providing desktop computer operations and software support to include word-processors, spreadsheets, database construction, presentation packages, Web design, etc. Some college is a plus. Experience with UST's computing environment preferred. Experience with Banner, Blackboard, Resource25, and Web Help Desk applications preferred.

We are seeking candidates with knowledge of standard computer hardware, portable technology, and business application software; the configuration, troubleshooting and repair of desktop computing devices in a networked environment; Mac and Windows computing platforms and presentation technology such as LCD projectors and switching systems in a University environment; experience using spreadsheets and/or databases (e.g., Excel and/or Filemaker) to manage and manipulate data; ability to create and use spreadsheets, graphs, and reports to gather analyze and communicate information; documentation and user instruction methods; record keeping principles and practices; techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals, in person and over the telephone; experience providing information systems customer support, training and documentation.

This job requires some heavy lifting (up to 40 pounds). Occasional work in cramped quarters and poorly ventilated tunnels, closets, and cabinets is required.
