Marinette Marine Corporation, a Fincantieri Marine Group Company, is a progressive shipyard specializing in building ships for the United States Coast Guard and United States Navy, as well as commercial vessels. We currently have a career opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer at our Marinette, Wisconsin location.

The function of a Mechanical Engineer is to develop the functional designs of the various Machinery systems for the project to which assigned. In fulfilling this function he/she will assist the Lead Machinery Engineer in determining the technical requirements of the project as related to Shipboard Machinery Systems. Must also have the ability to apply the technical requirements in developing Machinery Arrangements and purchase technical specifications as related to equipment selection along with the ability to verify the functional design through calculations and validate the design through test procedure development. In addition, this position will also provide technical support/problem resolution to the Machinery Department customers during installation, alignment, and testing.

Machinery systems that the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for are: Propulsion systems, diesels, gas turbines, reduction gears, propulsion shafting systems, azipods, thrusters, steering systems, bow thrusters, deck equipment, cranes, winches, windlasses, capstans, and A-frames.

Qualified candidates must have as a minimum a BS in Mechanical Engineering, supplemented by a minimum of 5 years of shipboard machinery system or comparable industry design experience, or this requirement can also be met by High School education plus 10 years of ship machinery design experience. The ability to interpret customer specifications as related to machinery system requirements into functional documentation required to cost effectively design the perspective vessel (or comparable industry system) is a qualification of the Machinery Engineer. Familiarity of Regulatory Body Requirements associated with the Shipbuilding industry (i.e. ABS, 46 CFR, and U.S. Coast Guard) and experience with AutoCad 2D/3D, Bentley Explorer, BAAN IV MRP, or PipeNet a plus.
