Summary: Responsible for the supervision of the site's billing and patient financial business systems.Performs coding and reimbursements duties associated with the clinical activity of the site. Assures appropriate compliance policies and reports quarterly. Educates physicians on coding updates and audits. Implements policies and protocols.
Job Responsibilities: Supervises, mentors and evaluates all site financial personnel. Responsible for hiring, annual performance reviews, corrective actions and termination of financial employees. Oversees financial clearance in the facility and monthly quality assurance of the Financial Counselors for accuracy. Coordinates resources to assure systems do not falter. Responds to division management in the event of questions covering the financial systems. Implements policies and procedures as mandated by the Office of the Inspector General in conjunction with the Cleveland Clinic's Office of Corporate Compliance. Maintains a current level of knowledge with respect to governmental coding and billing regulations and HCFA policy. Reports quarterly compliance requriements. Education: Extensive CPT and ICD9 knowledge required. Computer literacy required. Must be proficient with office based, PC software. Knowledge in medical and anatomical terminology required.
Experience: Minimum four years of CPT/ICD9 professional coding, medical billing and reimbursement experience. Minimum one year of supervisory experience. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders or CCS/P (Certified Coding Specialist/Physician) from the American Health Information Management Association.
Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. May require periods of sitting, standing and the ability to walk to various locations throughout the Cleveland Clinic to attend meetings; must have normal or correction vision to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person.
